MD Handgun Qualification License

This comprehensive four-hour course is required by the state of Maryland to obtain  your Handgun Qualification License (HQL), which is necessary to purchase a handgun in Maryland. During this course, you'll gain essential knowledge of firearm safety, home defense strategies, and key skills such as: firearm manipulation, loading and unloading techniques, malfunction drills, weapon maintenance, and much more!

Concealed Carry Courses

MD Wear & Carry Permit

All law-abiding citizens are eligible to obtain a Maryland Wear and Carry Permit.

Our 16-hour, two-day course provides comprehensive training for original applicants, covering safety, defensive tactics, and live-fire exercises. This course meets the training requirements for both Maryland residents and non-residents seeking a carry permit.

Cost: $350.00

Total Time: 16 hours over 2 consecutive days

MDWC Dates & Registration

 

MD Wear & Carry Permit RENEWAL

This class is the required 8-hour MD permit renewal course for current Maryland Wear and Carry Permit holders only. Renewal training can be completed up to two years before your permit expires and must be submitted to the Maryland State Police within 120 days of expiration.

MD Renewal Dates & Registration

Utah Non-Resident Permit

This four-hour course is required to receive your Utah Non-Resident Permit, which is valid in 30+ states, including Delaware. Fingerprints and a passport photo are included in the course.

Note: Delaware residents must have a Delaware Resident Handgun Permit in order to obtain a Utah permit. (See our DE/MD Combo Course below for more information.)

New Jersey CCW Permit

This 6 hour course will satisfy the requirements for your NJ CCW. This permit for NJ residents and non-residents and is valid for NJ and 20+ States. This course will have a brief classroom portion and range qualification.

Note: You must own your own firearm for this course.

NJ Dates & Registration

Delaware CCW & Maryland Wear & Carry Combo

This 16-hour, two-day course is designed for Delaware residents 21+ who want to meet the training requirements for both the Delaware Resident Concealed Carry Permit and the Maryland Wear and Carry Permit. It exceeds Delaware’s minimum training requirements and fulfills Maryland non-resident permit training.

Cost: $375.00

Total Time: 16 hours over 2 consecutive days

DE/MD Combo Dates & Registration

 

DE CCW and Permit Purchase Course

Due to recent changes in Delaware law, citizens are now required to have either a Delaware Concealed Carry (CCW) Permit or a Permit to Purchase in order to buy a firearm. Our 8-hour course meets the training requirements for both certifications and allows each student to decide which option is best for them. This course is for Delaware residents only, as Delaware does not offer out-of-state CCW permits.

If you are looking to carry in both Delaware and Maryland, sign up for our DE CCW / MD Wear and Carry Combo and save $125! In this combined course, you pay $350 for the MD Wear and Carry, and your DE CCW fee is reduced from $175 to just $25 — a total of $375 instead of $525.

Handgun Courses

Beginner Handgun Course

Designed as a continuation of the HQL class, the Beginner Handgun Course provides hands-on, low stress, range experience under the guidance of experienced instructors. The course covers safety, marksmanship fundamentals, firearm handling, and common malfunctions

Youth ages 13–17 may attend when accompanied by a parent or legal guardian, who must also participate.

Cost: $150.00

Beginner Handgun Dates & Registration

Scenario Based Training

This dynamic course immerses students in real-world scenarios with live role-players in shoot / don't shoot situations. It focuses on decision-making, critical thinking, and applying firearm skills in realistic contexts.

Do not bring a firearm or ammunition to this course.

SBT Dates & Registration

Red Dot Sight (RDS)

This course helps new and returning red-dot pistol shooters get the maximum performance from a pistol-mounted optic, building on an existing foundation of marksmanship and safe firearm manipulation. Topics include zeroing and confirmation at various distances, draw and dot-acquisition techniques, recoil management and tracking, optic-related troubleshooting (mechanical offset, holdover, optic blockage), and drills to build speed and efficiency.

Live Fire Workshop

Live Fire Workshop is designed for intermediate shooters who want to improve their confidence, proficiency, and handgun manipulation skills. This course is ideal for those who already have basic firearms knowledge and seek to take their abilities to the next level.

The shooting drills will focus on core fundamentals, shot placement, and judgmental shooting at various distances. Depending on the student’s ability, more advanced drills may also be incorporated.

Live Fire Dates & Registration

Advanced Live Fire Workshop

This Advanced Live Fire Workshop is a high-pressure, dynamic course that challenges students with advanced drills including close-quarters tucked-hip shooting, barricade and moving-to-shoot drills, timed stress drills, multiple target engagement 25 yards. Drills may include steel plates, moving targets, or reactive targets.

This course is for experienced shooters only — prerequisite: successful completion of the Tactical Shepherd Live Fire Workshop or MD Wear & Carry Course with a score of 95% or better.

Advanced Live Fire Dates & Registration

Handgun Cleaning and Maintenance

In Handgun Cleaning and Maintenance (C & M), the student will be able to: Disassemble and reassemble their handgun multiple times, clean their handgun, learn the friction points, understand carbon build up and lubrication. There will be a Q & A Section at the end of the course.

Handgun C & M Dates & Registration

Rifle Courses

Intro to AR 

This 5-hour, hands-on course is perfect for shooters with limited or no experience on the AR‑15 platform and is taught by military veterans and certified law‑enforcement SWAT instructors. You’ll work with your own AR-style rifle to learn assembly/disassembly, functionality, safe weapon manipulation, loading/unloading, malfunction clearing, and shooting positions. After classroom instruction, we’ll move to the range to zero your rifle and practice essential shooting skills to boost your confidence and proficiency.

Intro to AR Dates & Registration

Basic Combat AR

The Basic Combat AR / M4 Platform Course is focused on improving your performance with your AR-15 / M4 weapon system. It is taught by Special Operations Instructors and SWAT Operators. It is designed to be both instructional and challenging for entry and intermediate level shooters.

This specialized training focuses on proficiency improvement, weapon manipulation, rapid target acquisition, multiple target engagement, tactical body positioning, footwork and movement.

Specialty Course

Stop the Bleed

Tactical Shepherd offers training on how to respond effectively in the event of a serious, life-threatening medical emergency. This Stop the Bleed certification course, developed by the American College of Surgeons, teaches students the crucial skills to control bleeding in three simple steps.

As a bonus, this course also includes CPR and AED certification from the American Safety and Health Institute, giving you comprehensive training in emergency response.

Members Only Course

Structured Range Session (SRS)

 

This exclusive, members-only range session is designed for Tactical Shepherd Members who want a safe, structured, and professionally supervised range experience.

Participants will be assigned to Relay 1, Relay 2, or Relay 3, each with a designated shooting lane and a large barrel (for use as a table or barricade if desired). When your relay is called, you’ll engage targets at distances of 3, 5, 7, 10, or 15 yards. This is a self-paced session with a controlled rate of fire — for safety, no rapid-fire/mag dumps. Range Safety Officers and Instructors will be present throughout to ensure safety, provide coaching, evaluate targets, and offer feedback upon request.
